Selling a number plate on a vehicle
Selling a private number plate whilst it's on
your vehicle is very simple indeed.
Firstly you need to decide whether you
will put the private plate onto retention and then sell it or simply transfer it
from your car to that of the seller with DVLA form
V317.
It is more straightforward to sell the
personalised number plate on a
retention document and thus have something tangible to
give the purchaser. To transfer the personalised plate from car to car is not complex
but does need more paperwork and and can be more involved.
