Registering a new car with your
personalised numberplate
When purchasing a new vehicle the
dealership will assign you with a DVLA numberplate randomly from the
pool of numberplates they are offered,
It is possible to register your new
vehicle with your personalised numberplate- the simplest way is if your
numberplate is held on a V750 or V778 retention certificate- by signing
the form and handing this to the sales administration department at the
dealership your vehicle can be registered with your private numberplate.
See
numberplate transfer for which section of the form to sign.
If your numberplate is currently held
on your vehicle- you will need to sign and complete form
V317 for your
current car - the "donor vehicle" and the sales administration team can
complete the details of your new vehicle once it is assigned a chassis
number etc.
Transferring the plate from your
vehicle means you will need to submit the
V5 registration document as
well as the MOT if applicable- for full details on what needs to be sent
please refer to the notes section on form V317.
As with all numberplate transfers-
it's vital you update your insurance company as soon as possible so that
your policy will display your correct registration number at all times.
