Illegal numberplates

We constantly hear the Police and the DVLA mentioning numberplate offences and so called illegal numberplates - but what actually constitutes an illegal numberplate?

Well there are a couple of different ways you could find yourself falling foul of the law

Numberplate spacing

The spacing of characters is very important- the DVLA have strict guidelines which must be observed. See our numberplate spacing page

Numberplate size

The actual size of the numberplate is significant- a large number of motorbikes sport increasingly small numberplates.

Numberplate font

The font used on the numberplate is crucial- the DVLA dictate that only the "Mandatory" Charles Wright font may be used.

Numberplate fixings

A number of motorists use numberplate fixings and bolts to obscure the plate and make it appear to be a different number.
